<fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I ASKED: If you know of a resource of any kind that you found INVALUABLE for</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param>=20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>you/your school as you first went on-line, please let me know. It might also be =20 helpful if</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>you briefly mentioned how or why you rate it so highly.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I needed to do a little editing and condensing, but hopefully I can post this HIT in=20 one part. Here goes . . =2E.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>----------------</fontfamily><= fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>http://www.pacificrim.net/~mck= enzie/</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Jamieson McKenzie's technology web site, called From Now On is excellent.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>He is the tech. coor. for Bellingham Schools, WA. I've heard him speak & he</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>makes a lot of sense.=20 Carol Sturz, Batavia Middle School, IL</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>-----------------</fontfamily>= <fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>One source I found=20 enjoyable to read as well as a fun read for faculty=20 members is The </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Internet for Macs for Dummies by Charles Seiter.=20 A good source of Web sites is The Internet Yellow Pages by Harley Hahn which has 830 pages and is also sprinkled with humor. A warning though, it=20 should not be put in a place where students can access it because of several=20 sexual sites it lists. I keep this source at home. It does list many, many, </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>many other sites which are fun to discover. Finally, a company which </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>carries many invaluable products is called Classroom Connect which can </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>be found on the Web at http://www.classroom.net. My library </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>subscribes to a monthly newsletter called Classroom Connect which has</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>lesson plans and short informative articles about the Net. Hope these </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>are helpful. </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>-----------------</fontfamily>= <fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I used the Librarian Guide to the Internet at first.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param>=20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>It's a '94 copyright=20 I think, and I may have the title skewed since it is at</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param>=20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>school.=20 It's from Linworth Pub</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I also just picked up a copy of "The World Wide</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param>=20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Web for Teachers"=20 by Bard Williams. (Part of the ....for dummies series)</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>IDG books, 1996. ISBN 1-56884-604-5. LCCN 95-81813.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Actually, LM-Net has been an excellent resource. I've picked up lots of</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>useful URL's there. I have been writing them on old catalog cards and</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>categorizing them. I'm not sure if that is the best or not. I often pass</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>them along to the individuals that may be interested.=20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>------------------</fontfamily= ><fontfamily><param>Times</param></fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I found a book at a bookstore: World Wide Web Guide, and started</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>looking at it, and found really cool sites listed. I bought it, brought it</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>back to school and started typing in some addresses, instead of doing</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>general searches, and found some wonderful sites!! Since then, I've bought</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>some more: Really cool web sites, and World Wide Web Top 1000.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Then, the best of all is the one I found last spring: Kidstuff on the Internet.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>I bought a copy for each of my teachers and we're doing inservice right now,</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>showing them how to find sites, and they are going crazy!! =20 The Kidstuff title is (full title):</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param> A Pocket Tour of Kidstuff on the Internet</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param> Sara Armstrong, PhD.</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param> 0-7821-1803-8 =20 $12.99 Published by Sybex</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>One other book that is supposed to be good: Internet for Kids by Price</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>Stern Sloan. =20 </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>--------------------</fontfami= ly><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>When you go online I suggest you visit our school site. I know this</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>sounds like braging but it really is great! Our second grade teacher</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>spent months working on it and she created links to a variety of</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>"kid safe" internet sites which support our curriculum along with</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>other sites that would be of interest to students. I find this</fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>site so comprehensive that there is very little need to go </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>anywhere else. </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>the url is: http://www.ConnRiver.net/Customers/Lakeway/lake.html</fontfamily><fontfamily= ><param>Times</param></fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>--------------------</fontfami= ly><fontfamily><param>Times</param> </fontfamily><fontfamily><param>Geneva</param>The following guides are invaluable.
